At one time or another, many of us will likely experience lower back pain. It can interfere with work, daily routines and recreational activities. Learn which of your habits could lead to a sore back, and then discover ways in which you can prevent these altogether! Core strength and endurance is critical to preventing lower back pain. Leaving this workshop, you will gain ideas for stretching, exercises, and postural techniques which will improve your core, and save your spine!

Catarina Freire graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honors BSc.in Kinesiology, while also obtaining her CSEP-CEP (Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology - Certified Exercise Physiologist) designation. During her time at UW, she was a member of the Women’s Varsity Soccer team. Post-graduation, Catarina obtained a position as a Fitness Consultant at UW Fitness, where she was involved with cardiac and cancer rehabilitation programs as well as firefighter fitness testing. In 2008, Catarina was hired by the Toronto Police Service as one of two Physical Fitness Coordinators. Along with training new recruits, she also conducted fitness testing and developed other fitness initiatives for the Service. Currently, Catarina is a Fitness Program Coordinator at the University of Toronto, Scarborough. She is also certified as a Group Fitness, Indoor Cycling, and Kickboxing Instructor; and Certified Level 1 Fascial Stretch Therapist.
